An excellent entry point for Christians and other community members wanting to more clearly understand the realities of poverty in our city. Led by Jimmy Dorrell, executive director, or Kathy Wise, assistant director, or a Mission Waco staff member, participants on this driving tour will hear about and see many of Mission Waco’s program sites, sections of north/east/downtown Waco, and many other sites to raise awareness of issues relating to poverty.
The driving tour is 1.5 hrs and begins at Mission Waco’s Jubilee Center (N. 15th & Colcord). There is no charge for the tours. We have a vehicle (13 passengers plus our driver/guide) that can be reserved with advance notice. Or we can provide a tour guide to ride in your group’s own vehicle. If you have a large group (more than 13), it may be best for you to arrange to bring your own bus due to availability of our staff for tours — please feel free to discuss this with us.
We prefer to schedule tours for minimum group size of 8 people. If you are an individual — ask your co-workers, family, friends, neighbors, church members and see if you can form a group of 8. Or if that doesn’t work for you, let us know and we’ll let you know when there are open seats on another tour.
We are flexible as to days/times that the tours are scheduled. In the form below you can note your top four preferences for date/time.
Groups are invited to eat a meal at one of the neighborhood restaurants before or after the tour (including our own World Cup Café), or visit our Fair Trade Market. Your support of local businesses and restaurants adds to the economic development of these under-resourced neighborhoods.
