Closing the Gap Between Poverty and Opportunity
Despite the effects of poverty and patriarchal community structures, the world’s disadvantaged women still have aspirations for the future beyond their present situation. Often, all that stands in the way of lifelong goals is a lack of opportunity.
This gap is especially true for the poorest women in the community of Haiti. Mission Waco Mission World (MWMW) seeks to combat this limitation by empowering low-income women and their families through the Women’s Incubator Business program.
The Women’s Incubator Business is a food business program led by the most disadvantaged women in Haiti who desire to start a business but have not had the appropriate opportunity. By granting access to education and weekly training to improve sustainable living standards, we seek to transform survival mindsets, create saving habits that last a lifetime and enable these women to close the gap between abject poverty and opportunity.
Nine widows among the most impoverished population will join the program each year, where they will be responsible for purchasing and distributing rice and oil to the parents that MWMW sponsors for a low cost. After eleven months, their earnings will enable them to pay for housing, save money and start their own business through a Microcredit loan.
